The Best Kid’s Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in Ewing, NJ - Safety First

Our Kids Martial Arts Program is great for children from 3 to 13 year old. The kids that have taken our jiu-jitsu program have improved their social, athletic, self-defense and academic skills. We don’t put the emphasis on winning or losing. It is about developing qualities such as discipline, patience, mind,   spirit and physical development.

Our Jiu-Jitsu program cultivates qualities in our students that will help them in any life situation. We teach Gracie Jiu-Jitsu which is based on respect, discipline, humility, dedication, hard work and effort.

We help children who have never trained any sport or have been victims of constant bullying at school, to become confident individuals, be respectful to others and know how to achieve goals in sport and life. We recognize that taking jiu-jitsu classes takes a commitment from both, the kids and their parents. The results make it all worth it!

Methodology

We use the most appropriate methods for teaching the kids. We never forget that kids stick to a program when it is fun to them.  Wehelp kids develop

good relationships with teammates and friends. At our Academy, they will learn to be  efficient in defending themselves and will walk with confidence. They will have no fear at school, neighborhood or wherever they are.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Techniques for Kids

The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self-defense system is unique and promotes safety and effectiveness.
It is different than most self-defense systems that teach punching and kicking. Many systems are based on katas or simulations of techniques applied to cooperative training partners. This gives the children a false sense of confidence.

These ineffective simulations do not happen in our kids jiu-jitsu classes! In our dojo the students learn actual combat skills, practiced on resisting partners who are not cooperating.

Jiu-Jitsu's methodology is also much less violent and much more effective.

The training partners oppose the techniques using their own technique. This creates a training environment where the students can actually test and apply their jiu-jitsu skills in a real situation without getting hurt. That is why they develop such high level of confidence within the first few months of training. The students learn that they should never attack first.

Self-Defense

The concept of jiu-jitsu self-defense is to close the distance and clinch, take the attacker to the ground, establish a safe and dominant position, and finish the fight with the application of chokes or joint locks.
A well-trained Jiu-Jitsu student doesn't need to hurt the attacker when defending themselves. Applying these methods discourage the attackers and make them quit the fight.

The self-defense techniques that we teach the kids include but are not limited to:

  • Blocking punches and kicks
  • Defense from being grabbed by the arm, or body or clothing
  • Defense against head lock and presses against the wall or ground
  • Takedown and throws
  • Taking the mount and controlling the opponent
  • Escapes from various positions
  • Sweeps
  • Chokes and joint locks

Anti-Bullying program

Bullying can be extremely serious. It can affect the mental well-being, school performance, physical health and cause significant social damage of children who are targeted. Children who are bullied are more likely than other children to have lower self-esteem and develop depression, feel lonely, and suffer. They also are more likely to be afraid to go to school.

Our kid’s jiu-jitsu program teaches the kids to be confident. We teach them the necessary techniques to handle a confrontation through proper conversation, but if the confrontation becomes physical, they are able to defend themselves without even hurting their attacker. This is what makes the  Gracie Jiu-Jitsu different than most martial arts. The confidence that our students acquire through training jiu-jitsu allows them to step up and address a bully when he or she is praying on someone else.

At the jiu-jitsu school in Ewing, NJ we teach the kids to avoid fighting at all costs, but if physically attacked to defend themselves. In cases of verbally attacked we encourage the kids to talk to the bully respectfully and assertively, tell the parent and teacher. In case of physical attack we teach our kids to establish control and negotiate, instead of engaging in a fight of punching and kicking. We encourage our students to use minimal force and negotiate, when applying submissions. The goal isn't to hurt the bully, but defend themselves and be safe.
